‘Do you not see that Allah sent down water from the sky with which We brought forth fruits of diverse hues? In the mountains there are white and red, of diverse hues, and pitchy black;’ Quran 35:27
The word in Arabic used to describe these tracts of white and red of varying shades means distinct lines or patterns of different bright colors. This leaves us to wonder whether such mountains actually exist or not. The truth is that they exist in the world. They are candy-colored mountains, with rippling stripes of cerulean blue, vibrant magenta, canary-yellow, and blood-orange.
These breathtaking rainbow-colored mountains are a fascinating geological wonder created by Allah, Aza Wajah Allah, and are mentioned in the Qur’an. Sadly, man, by his nature, is always in doubt. Even when the prophet started preaching the religion of Islam, those who did not believe him accused him of fabricating the verses of the Quran and constantly challenged him to give them proof that what he was saying was the truth and that the Quran is actually the word of God. ‘Do you not see that Allah sent down water from the sky with which We brought forth fruits of diverse hues? In the mountains there are white and red, of diverse hues, and pitchy black; Quran 35:27.
Today, many are still in doubt. But the discovery of coloured mountains in some parts of the world is another piece of crystal evidence for humanity and Muslims that the words in the Qur’an are the words of Allah, the Master of the Universe. The Rainbow Mountains, as mentioned in the Qur’an, are now visible to man centuries after the prophet Muhammad mentioned it. The mountains are located within Zhangaye Danxia Landform Geological Park in the Gansu province of China and are known for their unique bright colours that are not witnessed in other mountains. The colours of the mountains resemble those of a rainbow and are pleasing to the eyes. Their Technicolor coloration is a completely natural phenomenon. Similar mountains are also cited in British Columbia, Canada, and the multihued Vinicna Mountain in Peru, South America.
It covers an area of 322 square kilometers (124 sq mi). The altitude is between 2000 meters and 3800 meters. It is 40 kilometers from east to west and 5 to 10 kilometers from north to south. The site is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. Thousands of cliff mountains present bright red and reddish brown against each other, showing their special features. It has been voted by Chinese media outlets as one of the most beautiful landforms in China.
The discovery of these mountains strengthens our faith even more and calls upon the disbelievers to see the Miracle of Allah. This verse of the Holy Quran could not, by any means, have been made by the Prophet (SAW), because he lived in a place where there was nothing but barren desert and palm trees, or at most, there could be an oasis, and these mountains are situated thousands of kilometers away from the Arabian Desert, yet Allah told us about these mountains through His Prophet. And it is the destination for many Chinese and international tourists.
All praise and Hail to Allah (SWT) the only Creator of Heaven and the knowing of all.
