Following the revelations from the recent professional operation undertaken by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Education as contained in a recent press release by the ICPC about the irregularities in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) and concerns expressed by major stakeholders about the faking of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) examination results.

it has become necessary for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as a moderator of the two examinations, to take appropriate action to put a stop to the unacceptable happenings. Just recently, one of the tertiary institutions in the country has had cause to verify the IJMBE results of more than 146 candidates admitted in its institution with IJMB certificates and had found only six genuine results. Consequently, JAMB has taken a decision to establish what it refers to as the “A/Level Task Team” and the “A/Level Qualification and Verification Databank” (ALQVD) as a monitoring body and a repository respectively for verified A/L qualifications in Nigeria. These proactive measures, as well as others that are in the pipeline, are to ensure that the gains recorded in the education sector especially the examination sub-sector over the years are not eroded by unscrupulous individuals who do not mean well for Nigeria.
