Governor gave this directive when he received the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, and his Management team, who were on a working visit to the State, at the Government House , Maiduguri , on Wednesday, 2nd December 2021.
His Excellency, the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babgana Umara Zulum, has announced a scholarship scheme to any indigene of Borno State who is willing to take admission offers from any tertiary institution located outside the North-Eastern States of Nigeria.
Prof. Zulum, after receiving briefings from the Registrar on the statistics of admissions of Borno State indigenes into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, also directed the constitution of a standing committee that would ensure, through all available means allowed by law, the utilisation of the State’s admission slots in other institutions outside the state as well as facilitate increased enrolment of Borno State indigenes into tertiary institutions, particularly those outside the North-East.
The Governor, who was visibly pleased by the visit, thanked the Registrar for the good job he is doing in JAMB saying, “We know what JAMB was and what it is today, all thanks to your sterling leadership acumen. Your competence, integrity and transformational attributes are not in doubt, we pray to see more of your types at the federal level to change the leadership deficit in Nigeria. On our part, we will continue to raise the bar of good governance despite the security challenges confronting the State “He listed as his achievements in office: the establishment of six centres of excellence, two in each of the three Senatorial Districts of the State; construction of 21 schools, rehabilitation of 48 others and the construction of over 500 classrooms coupled with the recruitment of over 1000 teachers; sponsorship of over 1300 indigent students in the various Unity Schools across the country; and the recruitment and deployment of science teachers, among others.
The Governor equally directed the immediate release of the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) on the currently-occupied JAMB Zonal Office building to the Board and a provision of a befitting land for the construction of a mega CBT centre by the Board.
